On Wednesday March 4 and on March 11, 2009, the Sunatori Community Center, which is located near Suizenji
Park, was the location of a fun and exciting foreign cooking class. The event was arranged and sponsored by The
Kumamoto Friends Group.
For the first class, 20 people came ready to cook and eat some delicious Western food. The class was held from 7 -
10pm.
The night started off with corn cups filled with beef chili, a very popular appetizer in the United States. The chili
powder makes it a little spicy, so some members needed an extra beer to wash it down. There were 3 items that
made up the main course on the menu. The first item was Shrimp Gumbo, which is a spicy cajun dish from the state
of Louisiana in the United States. The second item was Chicken Tortilla Pie. This is a Mexican style dish which is like
a tortilla, but it is baked until the cheese is bubbly. To keep the Mexican and spicy theme going, the third item was
Mexican fajitas. For those who have a sweet tooth, the desserts were chocolate cookies and fudgy brownies.
Everyone learned how to cook some delicious foreign food, then ate it while making some new friends.
After the event, a lot of members were outside exchanging emails and phone numbers with other members.
Before going home, everyone got a copy of the
recipes so they could make the dishes again.
